Spicules are microscopic, needle-like biostructures naturally extracted from freshwater sponges. These ultra-fine structures typically measure between 180–250 μm in length and approximately 10 μm in diameter. Each spicule contains a naturally formed hollow center, allowing it to function similarly to a microscopic channel or “straw,” helping to enhance the delivery and absorption of active skincare ingredients applied to the skin.

When incorporated into professional skincare treatments, spicules create temporary micro-channels within the upper layers of the skin, supporting deeper penetration of serums and active ingredients. This enhanced delivery system can improve the effectiveness of topical formulations by allowing nutrients, peptides, vitamins, and hydrating compounds to reach the skin more efficiently.

In addition to increasing product absorption, spicules also stimulate the skin through controlled micro-exfoliation and mechanical activation.
